Answers by: Dr. Narancsik Pal, senior lecturer, MD, spec. int.

1. How long does the rehabilitation procedure last?

The programme is currently carried out over three weeks of four hours daily in the cave.

2. Is this form of rehabilitation also suitable for asthmatics?

Certainly. Regardless of the seriousness of the disease, we have observed favourable influence in mild, moderate and serious forms of asthma.

3. What is the success rate of rehabilitation with the so-called ‘KARST THERAPY PROGRAMME"?

Generally, it can be said that in most attendants of the programme some parameters of pulmonary function improve and, intensity of inflammatory changes decreases, resulting in smaller consumption of medicines and fewer progressions of the disease.

4. Can the rehabilitation in the cave completely eliminate the symptoms of asthma?

No. Medicines are most important for treating asthma. A precondition for favourable effects of medicines is their correct use. During the rehabilitation treatment a lot of stress is put on attendants's education. A correct use of medicines together with favourable climatic conditions in the cave reduces symptoms of asthma to a large extent, in some patients even for a couple of months.

5. Is the therapy also appropriate for a child with initial signs of asthma?

Children are not included in our programme. However, the results of including children in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Ukraine are very good.
