WHAT IS THE KARST THERAPY PROGRAMME?

THE KARST THERAPY PROGRAMME stands for treatment of the attendant with the intention of alleviating problems arising from the disease and improving the attendant’s quality of life.

We wish to improve the attendant’s pulmonary function, maintain the achieved level and slow down progression of the disease.

A precondition for achieving rehabilitation goals it the attendant’s motivation to change previous life habits and the attendant’s close cooperation with our rehabilitation team.

Work at our hospital is based on correctly formulated rehabilitation programme with the stress on education, physiotherapy and psychosocial support.

We first familiarise the attendant with basics of the disease. We stress the importance of knowing the triggering factors for progression, subjective and objective signs of disease progression as well as the possibility of self-help.

Knowing the mechanism of medicine effects and a correct use of medicines are a precondition for achieving their efficacy.

The process of education includes specialists internists, pulmologists, physiotherapists, medical nurses, dietitians as wells as, occasionally, psychologists and occupational therapists.

Rehabilitation may be carried out individually or in groups, in sickrooms, physiotherapy rooms, gyms etc. as well as in special natural ambiences.

The special feature of rehabilitation treatment at our hospital is that it is carried out in a special ambience – underground Karst cave.
